WHAT IS GROUP THERAPY?

Are you longing for a sense of community?
Do you wish other people understood what you’re going through?
Have you ever felt shameful about your mental health related struggles?

Group therapy is a powerful way to work on your mental health alongside others facing similar challenges. Led by a trained therapist, it combines shared connection with evidence-based tools—so you’re not just talking, you’re learning skills that make a real difference.

At NYC Cognitive Therapy, our CBT Skills Groups are structured, supportive, and open-ended. That means they’re ongoing rather than time-limited—but they’re not drop-in. Members commit to showing up regularly so trust, safety, and momentum can build over time.
You’ll learn how to challenge unhelpful thoughts, practice new behaviors, and discover you’re not alone in what you’re going through.

WHY GROUP CBT WORKS

Struggling alone? You don’t have to.
When you're dealing with anxiety, depression, or shame, it’s easy to feel like you’re the only one. Group CBT helps challenge that belief. Hearing others express thoughts you’ve had yourself can be surprisingly comforting—and the first step toward real connection.
You’ll learn strategies that actually work.
This isn’t just venting. Group CBT gives you tools grounded in research—like how to challenge negative thinking, manage emotions, and build healthy routines. Best of all, when someone asks a question or shares a challenge, everyone learns from it.
You’ll try new behaviors—right there in the room.
Whether it’s speaking up, asking for what you need, or practicing a new way of thinking, group is a safe place to experiment, make mistakes, and grow. You won’t just talk about change—you’ll start living it.
You’ll feel the power of giving and receiving support.
It feels good to know you’re helping others—and just as good to feel truly understood. That back-and-forth can be healing in ways individual therapy sometimes can’t offer.
You’ll gain insight into patterns you may not see on your own.
How you show up in group often mirrors how you relate outside of it. That makes group a powerful setting to notice old patterns, try something new, and get honest, caring feedback.
You’ll leave with real-life tools—not just insight.
Our goal isn’t just for you to feel better during group. It’s for you to leave each session with skills you can use in everyday life—to handle stress more effectively, relate to others more confidently, and move toward the life you want.
