Psychotherapist Beck Institute CBT Certified Clinician (BICBT-CC)
NYC Cognitive Therapy founder Noah Clyman has dedicated his life to helping people work past problems for happier, more fulfilled lives, with a specific focus on anxiety problems and depression. Training: After earning a Master's degree from New York University he completed intensive post-graduate training in CBT at the Beck Institute, including ongoing case consultation and supervision with CBT founder Aaron Beck, MD and colleagues. Noah is a certified cognitive therapy provider since 2010, after completing the rigorous certification process, which includes the close evaluation of the applicant's academic knowledge and clinical expertise before a certificate in CBT is awarded. Noah has also studied Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) with Edna Foa, Gottman method couple therapy with John and Julie Gottman, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with Steven Hayes, Transformational Chairwork with Scott Kellogg; Compassion Focused Therapy with Paul Gilbert; & Trial-Based Cognitive Therapy (TBCT) with Irismar Reis de Oliveira. After close supervision and evaluation, Noah became one of a few clinicians to be certified as a Trial Based Cognitive Therapist (TBCT). |
In 2012, Noah was invited to join the ACT Credentialing Committee. He serves as a "rater" for the Academy--one of the expert CBT therapists who review and score audio samples submitted by individuals applying for certification in cognitive therapy. Noah is also an ACT Certified Trainer/Consultant, which signifies that he possesses the skills to serve as a mentor, consultant, or supervisor for other developing cognitive behavioral therapists.
Teaching: Noah is a supervisor for the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer for NYU and Columbia University. In these capacities, he supervises clinicians from beginner to advanced in the practice of Cognitive Behavior Therapy. He teaches students how to: conduct thorough assessments, diagnose, complete treatment plans, and carry out interventions in psychotherapy practice. Noah developed a comprehensive internship program for trainee therapists at Gay Men's Health Crisis--the oldest HIV/AIDS service organization in the country--providing both individual and group supervision for graduate students in their clinical internships. In Summer 2013, Noah co-created and co-taught the graduate course, 'Cognitive Behavioral Treatments,' at Boston University with Beck Institute Instructor, Daniel Beck, LCSW.
Clinical Experience: In his private practice, Noah works with adults in individual and couples therapy. His practice includes clients who are dealing with anxiety and depression, addictive disorders, relationship and communication problems, and life transitions. Noah's therapeutic approach is active and practical and he likes to work collaboratively with clients. He provides support and practical feedback to help clients resolve current problems and long-standing patterns. With sensitivity and compassion, Noah works with each client to help him/her build on strengths to identify and achieve life goals.
