Therapy in the Comfort of Your Own Home

Home Visits
  • Do you have difficulty making it to therapy appointments due to mobility difficulties?
  • Do you find that feelings of overwhelm interfere with your taking desired actions outside of therapy sessions, such as taking a subway, cleaning your apartment, or socializing?

At NYC Cognitive Therapy, our clinicians are available to meet you in the space where you feel you need them most – outside of the office. There are several types of clients who can benefit from this form of therapy, including those who are homebound due to physical limitations, those with OCD, severe social phobia, panic disorder, agoraphobia, or compulsive hoarding.

Appointments that take place in your own home can be a helpful way to tackle issues with clutter.  In your home, you’ll be able to share about what is most important in you space with your therapist in a way that simply isn’t possible in the office.  This is also a wonderful option for those who are homebound due to physical illness or other difficulties leaving home.

What makes home visits so effective for OCD and other anxiety issues is the ability to engage in therapy within the context of your everyday environment, finding the areas of difficulty and working through them together. Research finds that one of the best ways to overcome anxiety, is to slowly learn to face fears through exposures.  We know this is no easy task and our clinicians are available to help you carefully work your way up to feeling comfortable at a pace that feels right to you.  Our clinicians can help with anxiety provoking social situations, entering uncomfortable spaces like the subway or facing triggers related to OCD.  The benefits of having a therapist meet you outside of the office is that you will have support each step of the way.

This work is not just limited to the home- a client with a fear of the subway, for example, can work with a therapist to actually use their local subway station as a laboratory to work through the phobia.
